What is the History of Bradford Equestrian Center
Bradford Equestrian Center is a family-owned business that has been providing quality horseback riding instruction and training for over 30 years. The center is located on a beautiful 20-acre ranch in the heart of Silicon Valley, just minutes from San Jose. The Bradford family has a long history with horses.
patriarch Jim Bradford grew up in Northern California and started rodeoing as a teenager. He eventually turned professional, competing in bull riding, saddle bronc and bareback events. In the early 1970s, he met his future wife Dee while they were both working at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.
Dee was also an accomplished rider, having competed in barrel racing and team roping events. After getting married, the Bradfords settled down on a small ranch near Gilroy where they raised their two daughters, Shannon and Nicole. It was during this time that Jim decided to hang up his spurs and focus on teaching riding lessons to beginners.
His daughter Shannon followed in her father’s footsteps and became a professional barrel racer; she now competes at rodeos all over the country. In 1984, the Bradfords bought the property that is now home to Bradford Equestrian Center. They built a new barn with 12 stalls, an arena and several paddocks.
The following year, they added another 12 stalls and began offering boarding services for local horse owners.
