Who Owns Old Salem Farm
Old Salem Farm is a historic farm and museum located in North Salem, New York. The farm was founded in 1761 by William Willet, a Quaker farmer from Pennsylvania. Willet purchased the land from the local Indians and built a log cabin on the property.
The farm eventually grew to include a gristmill, sawmill, blacksmith shop, and other businesses. In 1810, Willet’s son-in-law Isaac Young took over the farm and expanded it further. Young added a dairy operation and built a new house on the property.
The farm continued to be passed down through the family for generations. Today, Old Salem Farm is owned by John Roper III and his wife Maryanne. The Ropers have been working to restore the historic buildings and grounds of the farm.
